Setting an ROI(Region Of Interest) with respect to motion notifications

A Region Of Interest, aka RoI, indicates an area in front of your camera, only within which, if a motion happens the user will be notified. In Sure app, you can set up an RoI for SureBell through Settings->Motion Settings page. Click on the “+” symbol on the bottom right corner and you can see a set of icons which help you create, delete and save an RoI. Take a snapshot of the field-of-view in front of your camera. To do this, press the “camera” icon. Clicking it, will make a live view to your device and once you are Sure, nothing is in front of the camera, click the “camera” icon shown on the live view screen to take the snapshot. After doing this the call will be cut and you will be able to see the snapshot as background of your “Motion Settings” page. Now press “+” again which will give you a template of rectangular region over your Motion Settings background. You can resize and reshape this shape and move it around to the place in camera view where you are interested to get notified for motion. Once you finalize this (your RoI for that device), click “+” again and press the “save” icon to apply it the device. Now you have set your RoI on the device and you will be notified only on motions within that RoI. However, do note that notifications are also dependent on the motion sensitivity levels that you set through “Settings”->”More Settings”. [NOTE: If you don’t draw an RoI or delete an existing RoI, the full camera view becomes the default RoI].

Only device admins can set up an RoI.

Stopping notification alerts

Users can stop both ring and motion notifications whenever they want. This will mute their notifications but the videos will be uploaded and can be viewed from the ‘Notifications’ menu.

There are three methods for doing this.

  • Stopping notifications for all devices
  • Sûre app-> Menu on the top left corner (the three lines) -> All Ring Notifications/All Motion Notifications -> Change the button to ‘OFF’ mode. This will stop the ring and motion notifications of all the devices for the period specified by the user in the option

  • Stopping notifications for a particular device
  • Sûre app->Select Device-> Settings->Schedule Time to Stop Ring/Schedule Time to Stop Motion.
  • Select any particular day and then schedule time when the notifications are to be stopped. The option, ‘Schedule Time to Stop Ring’ will stop ring notifications whereas ‘Schedule Time to Stop Motion’ will stop motion notifications.

  • Stopping notifications from Mobile Settings
  • Go to your Mobile Settings->Notifications->App notification->Sûre app-> Show notifications -> Off.
  • Keep your mobile in ‘Save battery mode’. The notifications will be off.

Setting Video Recording/Streaming Quality/Speaker Volume

Go to Sure app->Your Device->Settings->More Settings

Adjust the device settings here to Low, Medium or High as per your requirement. If you set motion sensitivity to LOW, then only larger motions closer to camera (and within the RoI drawn) will be notified. This helps to reduce unnecessary alerts for peripheral movements. If sensitivity is set to HIGH, then most movements in the selected RoI will be notified to you. [NOTE: If the size of the RoI drawn is too small, then the device will behave same under all sensitivity levels and you might get frequent alerts for motion in that RoI.]

Any limitations on the number of users per device.

As of now, any number of  users can be added per device.

Is the Sure app necessary to receive notifications from the Bell?

Yes, the Sure app is necessary to be able to use the smart functions of the device. Always remember to stay signed in to the Sure app to receive notifications.

Will every single user who has been given access to the Sûre framework receive notifications?

By default every user does receive notifications from the Sure Bell. But, individual users can choose whether to receive motion and the doorbell notifications(through their Sure app). For instance, one user can be notified only when someone rings the Sure Bell while the other can be notified when motion is detected, both depending on how those users have configured to receive notifications (on their Sure app).

How to fix push notifications in MIUI?

Here goes:

1: Go to settings –> manage apps’ battery usage –> choose apps. From there, pick all the apps you want to receive push notifications and select “No restrictions”.

2: Go to settings –> permissions –> autostart. From there pick all the apps you want to receive notifications, and toggle the switch to turn it on.

3: Go to settings –> app notifications –> pick the apps you want to receive notifications, the  turn the toggle for “Priority” on.

4: Lock the app in the “recent apps” / “app overview” plane. Do so by first opening the apps, the press the “recent apps / overview button” (that’s the square button on stock Android, or the button with three horizontal lines on the Mi Mix). From there, find the app you want to receive notifications,

pull down on it to “lock it”, so it never gets cleared.

5: This last step requires Developer Options privileges. To enable that, go to settings –> about phone.

–> tap on MIUI version tab like eight times. You should then get a little message saying “you are now a developer”. Then head back out to settings, go to developer option, scroll to nearly the bottom, find “memory optimization”, and turn it off.

Again, maybe step 5 is all you need. I know my Whatsapp and Gmail notifications didn’t start coming through in real time until I completed that step.

Device Usage

What does the Motion Sensitivity setting control do? I don’t want movements farther from my camera to be notified to me, but want notifications closer to my camera. Can I do this?

Settings -> Motion Settings -> Motion Sensitivity.

This option helps you to control the amount of notifications that you get for motion within the RoI that you have drawn (or full camera view if RoI has not been drawn explicitly).

If you set motion sensitivity to LOW, then only motions closer to camera will be notified for you helping you to reduce unnecessary alerts for peripheral movements. If sensitivity is set to HIGH, then most movements in the selected RoI will be notified to you. [NOTE: If the size of the RoI drawn is small, then the device will behave same under all sensitivity levels and you might get frequent alerts for motion in that RoI.]

I have subscribed to Sure Cloud plan. But my home internet connection does not have high bandwidth (4 Mbps or lower) and I don’t have a high upload limit for my internet plan. How can I limit the amount of video bytes uploaded as events?

From Sure app, select Settings->More Settings. You can choose the quality of video for streaming (live video for interaction) and recording (motion events) there. Choosing LOW quality should reduce your video bytes generated for storage and upload to about 1/3rd of the video bytes generated for HIGH quality. MEDIUM will be somewhere in between. But, do remember that when you decrease video quality for reducing the uploaded video file size, you will be compromising on the quality of video seen in the recording.

What are Wi-Fi range extenders and how will they improve the functioning of my device?

These range extenders are devices that repeat signals and hence, improve your Wi-Fi range. They can be connected very easily to your Wi-Fi connector and must ideally be placed close to your Sure Bell for optimal performance.

When night vision is not working properly?

Please contact customer support.

What if audio or video are not working?

Normally, in a specific Wi-Fi range both the video and the audio will be working.

  1. i)  If only audio comes in a call?

SûreBell has smart bandwidth optimization. It analyses the available bandwidth in the user mobile and connects based on that. An audio only call may indicate bad network or Wi-Fi connection. Please verify/check the bandwidth/signal.

ii) If both video and audio are not playing?

This would happen if the network packet losses go above levels within which SûreBell can apply its bandwidth adaptation methods. You can also check the Wi-Fi strength available near SûreBell.

I am using Sure App to talk to a visitor in front of my Sure Bell. He/she can’t seem to hear my voice.

Please check whether you have muted your mobile by looking at the right-hand side of your call screen in Sure App. Also, please check the speaker volume setting under Settings->More Settings and change it according to your need.

If there is any fluctuation in the power supply?

Sure Bell works well with a AC supply voltage of 110-230V at 50/60Hz.

I am unable to change Sure Bell's speaker volume or the mic gain (voice level from Sure Bell) while I am on a call with the device.

Unfortunately, you cannot do this while on a call. You need to disconnect the call, change the settings and restart the call. This has been done to prevent undesirable voice artifacts coming during a live call

On a call, my video quality is seen varying from not so detailed to high resolution (more clear). Why is this happening?

Your Sure Bell has a built in bandwidth adaptive video quality selection feature. This means that Sure Bell tries to send you the best quality of video that will be possible based on the network conditions prevailing (bandwidth available). This is one reason why you could be seeing this. Another reason is that the Wi-Fi strength available to Sure Bell may be low or varying leading to unpredictable bandwidth available for Sure Bell from your Wi-Fi router. You can check the Wi-Fi strength available from your router near Sure Bell by using an Android app such as Wi-Fi Analyzer.

I don’t have a cloud plan. Even though I am on the same Wi-Fi router LAN as mySure Bell, I am unable to view the video recordings of events (even from same day).

Please check whether your mobile is connected to the internet. For Sure Bell to show you the list of events for the day, at least your mobile should be connected to the internet (your Wi-Fi router might have lost internet connection, but your mobile should then have a separate data connection such as a 3G/4G one).

During device setup, a voice from my Sure Bell announces that the “Wi-Fi strength is low”. Does this matter?

Yes. It means that you’re Sure Bell l received sub-optimal Wi-Fi signal strength from your router. Please check whether you can move your router closer to avoid this message or you might need to add a wireless repeater between your router and Sure Bell and connect your Sure Bell to the repeater.

I got a notification now alerting me of a motion event in front of my Sure Bell. I can see the thumbnail image in notifications list, but on touching the thumbnail, it reports that “Video is not ready”.

You are notified of motion events at the start of the motion event in front of the Sure Bell , not after the event has finished. This is to enable you to react to the event (through a live view) if required. The motion event might be continuing and the video will be uploaded for you to view once Sure Bell decides that the event has completed.

I don’t get a ‘ding dong’ sound from the Musical Chime when I press my Sure Bell
