A few months ago, a curious piece of news started making the rounds. It was about a small town which has no doors. The houses, the town hall, and even the temple does not have any doors. Amazingly, there is very little crime. This is because the town believes that it will be protected by ‘Shani’ the wrathful god, and anyone who steals will be cursed.

But it is an amazing utopian dream come true for the town, but not every city can be like that. Crime is on the rise, and we need all the help we can get, to keep our homes secure. So when you start looking for the ideal piece of technology to keep you home safe, here are six things to keep in mind:

  1. Keep it simple, and choose a system that is easy to maintain
  2. Make sure you have all the features you need before you make the purchase
  3. Ask for a demo before you pay for it
  4. Spend some time every week to make sure there are no vulnerabilities
  5. Be careful about sharing credentials. Do not to write down codes and passwords
  6. Keep it out of the reach of children, until they are old enough to understand the implications – then teach them to use it carefully
